A Dickens Christmas has become a holiday tradition for many in Eastern Idaho, and is, in fact, following a tradition begun by
Charles Dickens himself!
Dickens began public readings of selected works in 1853, and made them an increasingly larger part of his professional career until his death in 1870. Among all the stories he read publicly, A Christmas Carol was the first, and a special favorite—both personally and among his fans. It was also the story with which he made his final appearance on the stage.
Geoffrey Bennett began his own version of the tradition 17 years ago, continuing in his father's footsteps, who started appearing as Dickens 50 years ago.
